Q: I would like to take my Chinese performing troupe to the United States. Can you suggest American presenters or hosts we might approach?
A: The American Center for Educational Exchange cannot recommend specific American presenters, but information on potential performing venues and inviting organizations is available on the internet at such sites as the International Society for Performing Arts (www.ispa.org) and the Mid-American Arts Alliance (www.maaa.org), which both link to their member organizations. The U.S. host will need to assist with a P visa petition for most performing groups. Leave several months for this process.
Q: I'm an American, and I'm interested in China. Can you offer me any information about China?

Q: I am an U.S. professor and wish to apply for the Fulbright Program to teach or conduct research in China. How can I apply?
A: U.S. professors who wish to teach at a Chinese university through the Fulbright Exchange Program, or conduct research in China, may find further information on qualifications and may apply through the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) in Washington, DC. Please visit its web site, www.iie.org/cies, for detailed information.
Q: We're from Chinese colleges, universities or other educational organizations, and we're looking for some American native speakers who help us teach English in our colleges. Can you recommend some candidates for us?
A: We regret that the American Center for Educational Exchange cannot provide candidate referrals for English teaching positions in China.

STUDY, TEACHING OR RESEARCH IN THE U.S.
Q: I am a Chinese student or professor from a Chinese University. I wish to apply for the Fulbright Program in China. How can I apply?
A:The Fulbright Program is jointly administered by the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and the China Ministry of Education. The program focuses on American studies, social sciences and humanities at top research universities. The American Center for Educational Exchange does not accept applications directly from individuals. Candidates are nominated through the Division of American and Oceanic Affairs of the Department International Cooperation and Exchange of the China Ministry of Education, then interviewed by a binational peer review committee.

Q: I'm a Chinese Professor who wishes to teach about Chinese culture, society or language in the United States under the Fulbright Program. How may I apply?
A: Occasionally, U.S. universities wishing to build international programs request lecturers from China to teach and consult. Information about opportunities is available from the Fulbright office at the American Center for Educational Exchanges, (010) 6597-3242, Ext. 203.
Q: I've been accepted by an American university. How can I get a visa to the US?
A: Information on visas is available from the visa section of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate nearest the applicant. Appointments for interviews in Beijing can be made by calling 6532-5305. Full information and FAQ's on non-immigrant visa applications are available online at

Q: I wish to apply for a graduate program, which is jointly run by an American university and a Chinese organization. May I get information on accreditation of American universities from your Center?
A: Yes. The Information Resource Center has two books explaining accreditation and listing the accredited institutions in the United States. These books and other guides to American educational institutions are available to users. They are also available at educational advising centers in and outside of Beijing (click here for the list of centers and libraries). However, ACEE staff cannot offer further detailed information or evaluation of individual institutions.

A: Persons wishing to take any of these tests are required to register at the Examination Office which is located on the west compound of Beijing Foreign Studies University, the phone number is 6846-1236.
