NOTE: All applicants who are not the family members of USG Employees assigned to China and under Chief of Mission Authority must be residing in country and have the required work and residency permits to be eligible for consideration. All Chinese citizen applicants must possess a valid Beijing City residency permit to be considered for this position.

The U.S. Embassy in Beijing is seeking an individual for the position of Agricultural Marketing Specialist with the Agricultural Trade Office.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The incumbent serves as principal advisor on China’s marketing practices and trade possibilities, and as the principal advisor to the Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) Director in planning, organizing, monitoring, and evaluating annual programs or activities designed to maximize and expend market access and exposure of U.S. agricultural and food products in China.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must address each qualification requirement detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each requirement. Applicants who fail to provide detailed information supporting each requirement will not be considered for this position.

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, agricultural marketing, marketing, economics, business or finance.

Experience:

  • 3 – 5 years of progressively responsible experience in agricultural trade marketing, including market analysis, market promotion, or work requiring application of broad managements skills.

Language:

  • Level IV (fluent) speaking/reading/writing in English and Chinese.

Knowledge:

  • A thorough understanding of United States Department of Agricultural (USDA) marketing programs, policies, regulations and procedures and a similar understanding of Chinese law, policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to agricultural marketing and trade.
  • A thorough knowledge of market mechanisms, constraints, and practices for opportunities for U.S. products in China.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to develop and maintain an extensive range of contacts with the staff of senior-level decision makers in the government and private sector.
  • Able to inter-relate agricultural marketing developments to China’s broader political, economic, and sociological forces.
  • Able to plan, organize, and manage broad marketing programs for U.S. agricultural products.
  • Able to prepare well-crafted and thorough marketing reports in grammatically correct English, which analyze the impact and success of various marketing strategies.
  • Able to provide sound professional advice.
  • Able to train, motivate, and supervise subordinate personnel.
  • Must be skilled in using computer software to develop data banks, marketing strategies, and statically analyses of market.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  3. EFMs who currently hold a PIT/FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of that appointment.
