THE PUBLIC AFFAIRS SECTIONPAS manages the United States government's official information, educational and cultural exchange activities in China. Concurrently, PAS is the official voice of the United States Embassy in China. Through its Information Section , PAS handles all public affairs matters and media relations concerning the Embassy, the United States government and its policies toward China. The Information Section also assists other agencies and elements of the Embassy in their media activities and programs. This section also prepares and distributes a daily Washington File , press releases and backgrounders on American policy, organizes press conferences , webchats and other media events, and provides timely and useful information to Chinese journalists and China-based foreign correspondents. The Cultural Section coordinates and supports U.S. cultural and educational activities in China. These activities include exchange visitor programs, the Fulbright and other educational exchange programs and lecture programs. The American Center for Educational Exchange (ACEE) houses a reference service that provides information on U.S. history, society, government and education. Offices concerned with the China Fulbright Program are also located at the ACEE. There are also public affairs offices in each of the U.S. consulates-general in China
-- Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenyang, and Chengdu. The Public Affairs Office in Chengdu is located at the American Consulate General, Lingshiguan Lu No 4, Chengdu 610041. Like the main office in Beijing, the public affairs office in Chengdu is responsible for carrying out all of the United States government's information, cultural and educational exchange programs in the Chengdu Consular District. Facilities in Chengdu include a 600-volume Reference Center that focuses on the study of America with 50 current American periodicals. The Reference Center is open to all members of the public during regular office hours, which are 0830 to 1200 hours and 1300 to 1730 hours Monday through Friday. The Public Affairs Office in Guangzhou is located at the Garden Hotel, Huanshi Dong Lu, #368. The telephone number is 020-8335-4269 and the fax is 020-8335-4764. Like the main office in Beijing, the public affairs office in Guangzhou is responsible for carrying out all of the United States government's information, cultural and educational exchange programs in the Guangzhou Consular district. Chengdu Consular District. The office is open from 0830 to 1230 hours and 1330 to 1730 hours Monday through Friday. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in is located in suite 532 of the American International Centre at the Shanghai Centre, 1376 Nanjing West Road, Shanghai 200040 (in the Portman/Ritz-Carlton complex). The office administers U.S. government public affairs, diplomacy, and information programs, including academic and cultural exchanges in East China (Shanghai municipality together with Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces.) The office is open 0800-1200, 1300-1700 M-F, exclusive of American and Chinese holidays. The Public Affairs Office in Shenyang is located in the American Consulate General at 52, 14th Wei Road, Heping district, 110003, Shenyang. Like the main office in Beijing, the public affairs office in Shenyang is responsible for carrying out all of the United States government's information, cultural and educational exchange programs in the Shenyang Consular District.
