Research & Reference Service
The IRC provides research and reference services for Chinese officials, scholars, journalists, researchers, and professionals on various aspects of United States policy: international relations, especially Sino-U.S. economic and security relations, U.S. society, values and politics, and global issues. Users are encouraged to contact the IRC in advance to discuss their query with reference staff.

Below are sample reference queries:

  • Contact information on experts with research interest in humanitarian intervention
  • Biodata of Gaylord Nelson, founder of the Earth Day
  • US-China WTO Market Access Agreement (full text)
  • American impeachment procedures, role of independent counsel and role of the Senate when sitting on impeachment trials
  • American foreign policy in the East-Asia and Pacific region, particularly recent developments in U.S.-China relations and policy towards the Korean Peninsula
  • Important pieces of U.S. technology transfer legislation since 1980

Book Loan: Book loans to researchers are available upon request.

Briefings:
Upon request, the IRC staff can give general or subject-specific briefings on the resources and services of the IRC either to individuals or to groups of researchers and students.

Internet Training: 
You are welcome to come to the IRC to learn how to use the Internet efficiently and effectively. Our trained staff can show you the best search engines to use and web sites related to your subject interests. Advance appointment required.

ALERT
ALERT offers abstracts of current articles and important Internet sites and highlights significant issues in five major areas of international or U.S. domestic affairs: rule of law, economics and trade, global issues/environment, regional security, and U.S. society and values.
