U.S. - China Environment, Science and
Technology Cooperation
China and the United States cooperate in the fields of environment,
science and technology and health under our 1979 bilateral S&T
umbrella agreement, which was recently renewed to last until 2006. Under the
terms of this Agreement, Chinese and U.S. government agencies now cooperate
in over thirty specialized fields, including energy efficiency, clean energy
and environmental protection.

medical care and surgery. Operation Smile now serves Chengdu, Kumming,

hours of training offered.

China Foundation, Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit, charitable

Jianyang White Goose Project, the Da Yi County Rabbit Project, the Lezhi
County Meat Goat Project and the Xinjiang Dairy Cattle Project.

Environment
- Orbis International
ORBIS International is a non profit making organisation dedicated to
fighting curable blindness worldwide through health education and hands
on training for ophthalmologists, nurses, anaesthetists, biomedical
engineers and health care workers. Operating from the world's only
"flying eye hospital", a fully equipped teaching hospital in a
converted DC-10 aircraft, ORBIS has carried out 290 programmes in 72
countries and has trained over 33,000 doctors and nurses since it was
established in 1982. Orbis visited Hefei, China in Summer 1997.
- PATH : Program for Appropriate
Technology in Health For over three years, PATH has worked with the
State Family Planning Commission (SFPC) in China to strengthen men's
involvement in reproductive health.

- Yale School of Nursing, in
cooperation with the World AIDS Foundation, trains Chinese nurses in
techniques of AIDS treatment and prevention. These nurses in turn
